Spring is a busy time for wildlife, including the Eastern cottontail rabbits that quietly raise their young in our neighborhoods. Unlike the underground burrows we might imagine, rabbit nests are typically shallow depressions in the ground, tucked into grassy lawns, flower beds, or even playground mulch.

Coexisting with raccoons is all about understanding their behavior and taking the right precautions to prevent conflicts. With a little knowledge and care, we can peacefully share our spaces with wildlife while keeping both animals and people safe.

In 2024, Sleeping Bear Wildlife Fund rehabilitated 139 animals across 11 counties, launched new conservation initiatives focused on research and habitat restoration, and introduced an internship program to train the next generation of conservationists. Thanks to our dedicated team, volunteers, and supporters, we’re making a lasting impact on Michigan’s wildlife and natural habitats!
